Essential Road Trip Checklist For Students – Ensuring Nothing is Missed Before Your Summer Adventure

If you’ve got an epic road trip lined up for the summer, then you’ll want to ensure it goes smoothly, so you and your friend can have a stress-free time. The UK is filled with many popular road trips all around the country and whilst the scenery will be different, your preparation won’t be.

Every road trip requires careful planning, car checks and the right provisions, so you can handle whatever the roads may throw at you. So, whether this is your first road trip or you just want a friendly reminder of everything you need for a successful journey, then we’re here to help.

Read our comprehensive guide below to make sure you don’t miss a thing when you set off on your wonderful adventures this summer.

Ensure your car has had its MOT

All cars must legally have an MOT test every year or after three years if you buy a new car to be deemed roadworthy. This test can highlight any issues your car may have and if you fail to do one then your car could break down mid-road trip and you may be fined up to £1000 too.

If your car is due for this test around the time of your road trip, then we recommend booking your MOT online for a few days before you leave to ensure everything’s in working order.

Plan your route before you set off

Knowing where you’re heading and the roads you’ll be taking can be very beneficial to the driver. This should make navigating unfamiliar roads a little easier and you can also choose the shortest route to save on fuel too.

Schedule stops

It’s extremely dangerous to drive when tired and so, regular stops should be put in your schedule to ensure the driver can have a break or you could swap who’s driving the next leg of the road trip here too.

Pack plenty of food and water

Road trips can take a while and you won’t want to be feeling hungry or thirsty as this can take away the fun from the journey. Make sure there are snacks and water in the car to get you through the road trip without any hangry outbursts.

Bring sick bags (Just in case)

Not everyone is built for long-distance driving, but you won’t want friends to miss out on fun times with you either. This makes sick bags an essential item, so car-sick passengers have a backup plan if they do start to feel ill along the way. Hopefully, these will just be a precaution but it’s better to be safe than sorry!
